Our Community

As a charter school, Young Scholars can recruit students from anywhere within the Philadelphia City limits.  Currently, Young Scholars Charter School serves students from more than 28 zip codes around the City of Philadelphia.  As a traditional charter school, Young Scholars can neither charge tuition nor be selective in its admissions process; therefore, families from across the city seek out our school because of our reputation and commitment to our students.

Our Students:

  • 240 children in grades six through eight
  • 95% Black, 2% Hispanic, 3% Multi-racial
  • Over 85% qualify for free or reduced lunch
  • Come from over 25 zip codes in City
  • Over 60% participate in at least one after school program during the week
  • Most come to Young Scholars at least one level below grade level in Math and/or Reading
