Scholars spent the entire day at Young Scholars Douglass dreaming about their future at Career Day! Seventh and eighth graders had the opportunity to meet with nearly 20 professionals – from architects to veterinarians – to learn about various paths to each career.

Dressed in their finest interview clothes, Scholars asked thoughtful questions and learned interesting facts about each career track. Presenters encouraged students to commit to education now in in order prepare for their careers tomorrow.

Big Buddy – Little Buddy Reading Program

It’s been an exciting week at Young Scholars Frederick Douglass Charter School! Starting this week, Young Scholars in grades 6-8 have been paired with 1st and 2nd graders to spend 15 minutes a day reading in pairs or small groups.

The goal is simple. Improve the 1st and 2nd graders reading skills and provide our middle school students with the opportunity to exercise their leadership skills.  Our middle school readers also have extra fluency practice.

Scholars are having a blast sharing their love of reading!

Eighth Grade Math Celebration

Congratulations to the 8th graders, Class of 2020, for testing proficient in 7 new learning goals on their last Quarterly Exam! This puts them at a proficient average in 17 out of the 30 learning goals so far this year! Keep up the great work!
